Who we are
Memoir Family ("we", "us") is a subscription service operated by Memoir from France. A family adds photos and words to a shared thread during the month; on the 25th the issue closes and a printed booklet is mailed to the grandparents you name. This policy explains what data we need to do that, how we use it, and the choices you have. For anything privacy-related, write to support@memoirfamily.com.
Signing in
There are no passwords. You sign in with your Google or Apple account, and we receive your name, email address and a unique account identifier from the provider. We use these solely to create your account, sign you in and contact you about your circle and your subscription. A Memoir account works here too: the same sign-in serves both products.
That is the only data we request from your Google account. We do not access your contacts, mail, files or photos stored with Google, and we never post to or modify your account.
What we collect
- Your family circle. The circle's name, the members you invite, the kids' first names and birthdays if you add them, and the recipients' names, postal addresses and preferred language. Addresses exist to mail the booklet and for nothing else.
- The thread. Messages, photos, voice notes and comments posted to the circle are stored so every member can see them and so pages can be made from them. Photos you add are uploaded with smaller preview copies; photos on your phone that you do not add are never uploaded.
- Issues. Each month's pages, captions, letter and cover are stored as the issue, and a print file is kept once the issue closes.
- Subscription and orders. Checkout and recurring billing are handled by our payment processor. We receive the subscription status, the order details and the delivery addresses; we never see your full card number.
- Usage data. Basic analytics on the app and the site (screens visited, features used, device type) to understand what works and fix what does not. Analytics are hosted on servers in the European Union.
- Support messages. If you email us, we keep the correspondence so we can help you.
Who can see the thread
The thread and the issue are visible to the members of the circle and to no one else. Members are invited by the owner or another member with a code; the owner can remove a member at any time. The grandparents receive the printed booklet and a web copy of each issue opened by the code on its back cover; they do not see the thread.
Comments never print. A comment on a page stays in the app, under the page card, for the members. Only the page's caption, chosen by the person who made the page, is printed.
Automatic editing
The app proposes pages by looking at photos on your device; that runs on the device and uploads nothing until you add a page. Once photos are in the issue, they may be processed on our servers to tidy a caption, order the pages and draft the monthly letter. They are used solely to produce your issue, never for anything else, and never to train anyone's models.
Who we share data with
We never sell your data. We share it only with the providers we need to run the service:
- Our cloud hosting provider, which hosts our servers, database and photo storage.
- Our payment processor, which handles checkout and the monthly billing of your subscription.
- Our printing partner, which receives the print file and each recipient's delivery address to print and mail the booklet.
- Our analytics provider, for product analytics on EU servers.
- Google and Apple, which verify your identity when you sign in.
Where your data lives
Your account, your circle, your photos and your issues are stored with our cloud hosting provider in the United States. Where data leaves the European Union, the transfer is protected by recognised safeguards such as the EU-US Data Privacy Framework and the European Commission's Standard Contractual Clauses.
How long we keep it
You can delete your account and everything in it from the app, under Family. Deletion is immediate and permanent: your circle if you own it, your photos, your messages and your issues are removed straight away, and there is no undo. If you are a member of someone else's circle, deleting your account removes you and what you posted from it. If you can no longer sign in, email support@memoirfamily.com from the address you signed up with and we will do it for you.
- Your account, your circle, the thread and the issues are kept while your account is active, so that past issues stay readable in the app.
- Print files are kept for 180 days after an issue closes so a lost or damaged booklet can be reprinted, then deleted.
- Order and billing records survive account deletion because we are legally required to keep them for accounting purposes. We remove your name from them, and the delivery address once the booklet has arrived.
Cookies
This site sets one cookie, to remember your language. There are no advertising cookies and no tracking cookies. If we add analytics or ad measurement later, nothing will be set before you agree to it.
Your rights
If you are in the European Union, the GDPR gives you the right to access, correct, delete or receive a copy of your personal data, to object to or restrict certain processing, and to withdraw consent at any time. Erasure is self-serve: delete your account from the app. To exercise any of the others, email support@memoirfamily.com. You can also lodge a complaint with your data-protection authority; in France, the CNIL (cnil.fr).
Children
The circle is run by adults. Kids appear in the photos and their first names and birthdays may be added by a parent to personalise the issue; that information stays inside the circle and on the printed booklet. Accounts are not offered to children under 15, and we do not knowingly collect their data. If you believe a child has created an account, contact us and we will delete it.
Changes to this policy
If we make meaningful changes to this policy, we will update the date at the top and, for significant changes, let you know in the app or by email before they take effect.
